Celebrate First Taste Event June 22!
Mark your calendar for June 22nd! Our board is so excited to be planning our first official Taste event as the new non-profit Plates for Change! The event will be held under the big white tent in Strawbery Banke as it was for many consecutive years until 2020. After two years of being hopeful and having to cancel, we are so ready to gather to support our grant recipients. So many of you have told us how happy you are that the event is back on this year. We can’t wait to have so many of our local restaurants there sharing the specialties of our many talented Seacoast area chefs.
There is more need than ever in our community. One in eleven people and one in eight children in New Hampshire are food insecure. The last few years have been hard for so many families. Food insecurity has increased and food prices are skyrocketing with no sign of coming down. Our kids more than ever need the nutritious food that our grant recipients help them access so that they can learn and thrive.
In addition to holding events (our signature event raised a record $115,000 for our 8 grant recipients in 2019) we hope to use this website as a place where you can find healthy and budget-conscious shopping tips, simple gardening lessons so everyone can learn to grow a little of their own food, tips for shopping at the farmers market, and fun and healthy recipes that kids can help prepare. Cooking your own food and being intentional in your shopping will help keep food costs down, and also help control the amount of sugar, salt, fat and additives you are consuming.
Join us June 22 as we gather the day after the summer solstice to celebrate community, the incredible culinary talent we have on the Seacoast and to work towards the goal that no child has to worry where their next meal is coming from. Purchase tickets.
If you are a local business interested in sponsoring our event please let us know. Our sponsors ensure that 100 percent of ticket sales go to our grant recipients. You can contact us at platesforchange@gmail.com or use this link: https://www.platesforchange.org/new-page.
